Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Learner Tien prediction
Stefanos Tsitsipas has endured an underwhelming season, and the 28-year-old Greek will be hoping to end it on a high.
His run to the round of 16 at the US Open was comfortably his best performance of the season, and it has sparked him into action somewhat, as he has picked up some good results in recent weeks, including wins over Luciano Darderi and Taylor Fritz in Shanghai.
He has been handed a tough first-round match, however, against 15th seed Learner Tien. The young American has broken into the top 20 of the world rankings in the second half of this year and continues to impress and improve all the time.
Tien has produced some outstanding performances at the big tournaments this season, with a semi-final appearance at the Canadian Open, along with quarter-final runs at Indian Wells and the Australian Open. He met Tsitsipas earlier this year in Geneva on clay and beat him in straight sets.
While Tsitsipas is always capable of rolling back the years, this is a tough draw for him, and it is hard to see anything other than a win for the left-handed Tien. The odds on this one are somewhat closer than anticipated, and Tien offers good value.
