Having started their final friendly against Germany before the beginning of FIFA World Cup 2026, it would be no surprise if Freese was selected by Mauricio Pochettino as the starting goalkeeper for USA to begin the tournament. He broke into the USMNT setup after having consistently impressed between the posts for New York City FC in MLS over the past few years and made 13 appearances for the national team in 2025. He is expected to compete with Matt Turner for the starting role in goal.
