Australia are through to their sixth successive FIFA World Cup™, having featured at every edition since 2006. Overall, this will be their seventh appearance at the finals.
The Socceroos earned their spot at the FIFA World Cup 26™ on 10 June 2025, defeating Saudi Arabia 2-1 to finish second in their group in the third round of the AFC qualifying tournament.
This marks the first time the nation has secured direct qualification since the 2014 campaign. Their places at Russia 2018 (against Honduras) and Qatar 2022 (against Peru) were earned via the FIFA play-off tournament.
Australia reached the knockout rounds for only the second time at the 2022 finals, bouncing back from an opening defeat to France with successive wins over Tunisia and Denmark. They advanced to the round of 16, where their run was ended by eventual champions Argentina.
