Expert prediction for USA’s chances at FIFA World Cup 2026
Mauricio Pochettino have been left frustrated in their two tournaments under his management thus far, having finished as runners’ up in last summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, while finishing fourth at the 2024/25 CONCACAF Nations League, despite winning the previous three editions.
Pochettino will believe that last autumn saw a bit of a turnaround in their performance levels but this past spring saw another regression with the United States suffering a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Belgium before a 2-0 loss to Portugal.
The Stars and Stripes do though, boast home advantage along with some really good players and they will be a strong match for Paraguay, Australia and Turkiye, with arguably their toughest group stage fixture coming last.
However, whilst their group should be one that they squeeze through as hosts, USA just don’t look strong enough to go too deep into the knockout stage.
What round will USA reach at FIFA World Cup 2026? Round of 32
