Competing with Lucas Hernandez and Theo Hernandez for the left-back position but perhaps with his nose in front, Lucas Digne is back at a FIFA World Cup for the first time since 2014, having been on the standby list for 2018 and then left out in 2022. The former Lille, Paris Saint-Germain, Roma and Barcelona defender has been excellent at Aston Villa, fighting off competition from Ian Maatsen to remain the Villans’ starting left-back, helping Unai Emery’s side to finish fourth in the Premier League and win the UEFA Europa League this season.
