Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres headline Graham Potter’s Sweden squad for FIFA World Cup 2026
Sweden manager Graham Potter has announced his 23-man squad for FIFA World Cup 2026.
Graham Potter and his Swedish side utilised the ‘backdoor’ entrance into the FIFA World Cup of the playoff system, courtesy of their 2024/25 UEFA Nations League campaign, and the Scandinavians’ squad should compete with the best this summer.
Viktor Gyokeres, fresh off the back of helping Arsenal win the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years, was instrumental to their playoff success in March and he will be joined up-front by Liverpool’s club-record signing Alexander Isak.
The quality of Potter’s squad isn’t restricted to just those two, though, with Newcastle United winger Anthony Elanga joined by the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Yasin Ayari in midfield.
At the back, Victor Lindelof remains captain in what will likely be a back three alongside Atalanta centre-back Isak Hien and Carl Starfelt, of Celta Vigo, while the wing-backs could also be Gabriel Gudmundsson and Emil Holm.
There have been a couple of fairly major and discussed omissions, though, as Celta attacker Williot Swedberg has been left out alongside Hugo Larsson and Barcelona winger Roony Bardghji. Sebastian Nanasi and Samuel Dahl have also been overlooked with Emil Forsberg having not been picked since November.
Tottenham Hotspur's Dejan Kulusevski is the key absentee for the Swedes, having missed the entirety of the 2025/26 campaign due to injury.
