Man Utd preview: Stunned in Yorkshire

On the opening day of the season, Manchester United succumbed to a shock 2-0 defeat to Hull City in Yorkshire last week with first half goals scored by defensive duo Semi Ajayi and then Nobel Mendy.

United had looked to be heading into the season in a strong position under the now permanent management of Michael Carrick with this week also seeing their seemingly good transfer window added to with the big money arrival of Carlos Baleba.

Ipswich preview: Already off the mark

Having returned to the Premier League, Ipswich Town lost Kieran McKenna early in the summer but have replaced him with former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Gary O’Neil, with a relegation battle again to be expected for The Tractor Boys.

They made a surprisingly strong start to the season, though, as they came from behind to defeat last season’s surprise package Sunderland at Portman Road last week, courtesy of a late winner scored by former Black Cats winger Jack Clarke.

Man Utd vs Ipswich prediction

Home advantage against newly-promoted opposition early in the season should mean a comfortable United win but the same was expected when they travelled to Hull last weekend. Ipswich have some threats on the counter-attack and O’Neil has shown himself to be adept at producing detailed and effective game plans against the best of the Premier League in the past when at both AFC Bournemouth and then Wolves. United have to remain favourites but it may not be a convincing and straightforward victory in Manchester.
