Union Berlin preview: Mid-table Union
Union Berlin, who have consistently punched well above their weight in German and even in European football for close to a decade now, finished firmly in the middle-of-the-table last season under the management of Swiss coach Mauro Lustrinelli.
Union have added seemingly quite smartly in the summer transfer with the free transfers of Marvin Friedrich and Zeno Van Den Bosch as well as Emmanuel Latte Lath on loan and Stanley Nsoki for a relatively low fee.
Eintracht Frankfurt preview: Entertaining Frankfurt
Last season, Eintracht Frankfurt were perhaps the most entertaining and chaotic team to watch in Europe. Their general inconsistency and ineffectiveness, though, eventually led to the sacking of Dino Toppmoller mid-way through the campaign.
He was replaced by former Liverpool winger and Celje manager Albert Riera, who did a good job with Celje, particularly with runs into the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League, but things became quite bland as they finished eighth and outside of the European spots in the Bundesliga.
Union Berlin team news: Ilic illness
Key midfielder Andrej Ilic missed their DFB-Pokal first round tie due to illness and so remains a doubt for this one, too. Stanley Nsoki and Andrik Markgraf are confirmed absentees in defence.

Frankfurt head to the capital city with a few key attacking doubts for this one, such as Japan international Ritsu Doan and the often prolific but injury prone Jonathan Burkardt.

After their season faded under Albert Riera, Frankfurt have now taken the decision to appoint former Monaco boss Adi Hutter, who is expected to continue their bright and fun style of football, as he managed with the Monegasque. Union will be on the front foot with home advantage at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei and this should be quite a fun watch for the neutral with both teams scoring seeming a decent bet for this one.
