Both Wolves and Everton recorded EFL Cup victories midweek, with the two set to square off at Molineux on Saturday.

Wolves preview: Back-to-back league defeats

Wolves fell to a second straight Premier League defeat last Saturday as Marcus Tavernier's early strike was enough to earn Bournemouth a 1-0 victory at the Vitality Stadium, in a match that saw Toti Gomes receive a red card not long after half-time.

Vitor Pereira's side bounced back in the EFL Cup on Tuesday though, as Jorgen Strand Larsen's late double earned the midlands side a 3-2 victory over fellow strugglers West Ham.

Everton preview: Home comforts

Everton enjoyed a triumphant first competitive game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium as they ran out 2-0 winners against Brighton thanks to goals from Iliman Ndiaye and James Garner.

The Toffees repeated that scoreline on Wednesday, with second-half strikes from Carlos Alcaraz and Beto handing David Moyes' side victory over League One outfit Mansfield Town in the second round of the EFL Cup, again on home turf.

Wolves team news: Strand Larsen doubtful

Strongly linked with a move to Newcastle, striker Jorgen Strand Larsen is a doubt with a "small injury" according to Pereira, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he was to miss out altogether here.

Toti Gomes is available after serving his suspension in the League Cup, while Ki-Jana Hoever is a minor doubt after being withdrawn in the first half last weekend.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Sa; Doherty, Agbadou, T. Gomes; Hoever, Andre, J. Gomes, Wolfe; Munetsi, Hwang, Arias

Unavailable: Chiwone (Injured)

Questionable: Hoever (Injured), Strand Larsen (Injured)

Everton team news: Mykolenko boost

Vitalii Mykolenko made his return from injury against Mansfield and Moyes is hopeful that the left-back can take his place in the starting line-up on Saturday.

Defensive pair Jarrad Branthwaite and Nathan Patterson remain out and this game may come too soon for Adam Aznou despite a partial return to training. Striker Beto, meanwhile, is vying with Thierno Barry for the striker's berth.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; O'Brien, Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko; Iroegbunam, Gueye; Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish; Beto

Unavailable: Branthwaite (Injured), Patterson (Injured)

Questionable: Aznou (Fitness)

Wolves vs Everton prediction

Despite the fact they have lost both Premier League games so far, Wolves certainly haven't disgraced themselves and they could have easily got something from their clash with Bournemouth last weekend, despite playing the majority of the second half with ten men.

Everton, meanwhile, have enjoyed back-to-back wins at their impressive new stadium, but their only away outing so far this season was a 1-0 defeat to Leeds in which they offered very little in attack.

Although it's still very early in the season, Wolves need to be taking points from games like this and they will be desperate to get off mark. Everton are resolute at the back though, and that could result in a fairly uneventful match as the hosts struggle to break them down. A low-scoring game is expected at Molineux.

Wolves vs Everton tip: Under 2.5 goals
