Venezia preview: Four defeats on the trot
Following their promotion to the top-flight and some heavy investment from American group Oak View allowing Venezia to spend quite heavily over the summer, Venezia have started this season with four defeats from four in Serie A thus far.
Giovanni Stroppa’s Venetians come into this one on the back of a 4-2 loss to previously pointless Fiorentina, who had just re-appointed Paolo Vanoli a few days earlier, in a game in which club-record signing Akor Adams had given them the first half lead.
Lazio preview: Winning start ended
Despite off-field issues involving supporters protesting the presidency and ownership of Claudio Lotito and the controversial appointment of former Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso, Lazio started the Serie A season with three wins from three.
Their winning start did end at Stadio Olimpico last weekend, despite having a 2-0 lead against AC Milan after 65 minutes before a quick-fire brace from Diego Moreira restored parity for the Rossoneri in the capital city.
Venezia team news: Fresh doubts
The Venetians have some fresh injury doubts for this weekend with former Fiorentina centre-back Matias Moreno now potentially sidelined alongside United States international midfielder Gio Busio.
Predicted XI (3-5-2): Stankovic; Schingtienne, Matias Moreno, Haps; Hainaut, Kike Perez, Lamine Fanne, Sohm, Richie Sagrado; John Yeboah, Adams
Unavailable: Bella-Kotchap (Injured), Sverko (Injured), Franjic (Injured), Adorante (Injured)
Questionable: Matias Moreno (Injured), Basic (Injured), Busio (Injured), Dagasso (Injured)
Lazio team news: Doekhi now a doubt
Versatile defender Danilho Doekhi is now a doubt due to a hand injury as both Adam Marusic and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru work their way back to full fitness for the Laziale.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Mandas; Floriani Mussolini, Sutalo, Provstgaard, Tavares; Frattesi, Belahyane, Taylor; Cancellieri, Noslin, Zaccagni
Unavailable: Furlanetto (Injured), Pellegrini (Injured), Patric (Injured), Rovella (Injured)
Questionable: Marusic (Fitness), Doekhi (Injured), Dele-Bashiru (Fitness)
Venezia vs Lazio prediction
Lazio’s best performance so far this season came in the game that they did not win against AC Milan, having been unconvincing in one-goal victories against Bologna, Genoa and Udinese. Venezia will believe that they can get after them here, having had attacking success in a 3-2 loss to Frosinone before their 4-2 defeat to Fiorentina and so both teams scoring may well be a decent bet for this one.
