Venezia preview: Tough start

Despite some heavy investment from American group Oak View, Venezia have struggled at the start of this season, following their promotion back to Serie A last season under the management of Giovanni Stroppa.

On the opening weekend of the season, the Venetians succumbed to a 2-0 loss at home to Lecce before suffering the same scoreline against AC Milan before a 3-2 defeat to fellow newly-promoted Frosinone in their most recent outing in Rome the other day.

Fiorentina preview: Changing again

Having spent last season in a relegation battle, Fiorentina have spent heavily over the summer with 12 new signings but a tough start has seen I Viola swap out new appointment Fabio Grosso for returning boss Paolo Vanoli, who steered them clear of danger last year.

That is because Grosso’s reign in charge of the big spending outfit saw Fiorentina succumb to a 4-0 loss to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico before a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Frosinone and then a 2-1 defeat at home to Torino.

Venezia team news: Fresh doubts

Venezia have some fresh injury doubts for this weekend with centre-back Armel Bella-Kotchap now potentially sidelined alongside midfielder Toma Basic.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Stankovic; Schingtienne, Matias Moreno, Halhal; Hainaut, Kike Perez, Busio, Sohm, Haps; Rrahmani, Adams

Unavailable: Sverko (Injured), Franjic (Injured), Adorante (Injured)

Questionable: Bella-Kotchap (Injured), Basic (Injured)

Fiorentina team news: Inao Oulai a doubt

One of their big money additions this summer, Ivory Coast international midfielder Christ Inao Oulai, succumbed to a thigh injury last week and so he is a major doubt for the trip to Venice.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): David de Gea; Joao Mario, Draguson, Pongracic, Valde; Fagioli, Ndour, Brescianini; Mastantuono, Mateo Pellegrino, Gnonto

Unavailable: Parisi (Injured)

Questionable: Inao Oulai (Injured)

Venezia vs Fiorentina prediction

Home advantage should at least see Venezia try and get themselves on the front foot, especially with the naturally attacking inclination of manager Stroppa – as was the case away from home against Frosinone last week. Vanoli did improve Fiorentina last season and he does now have a much better squad at his disposal so Fiorentina getting sone points on the board is surely now to be expected at Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo.
