Amanda Lemos: What does "Amandinha" have left to offer the strawweight division?

Owner of a 9-5 promotional record, Amanda Lemos (15-5-1) would go 7-1 with five finishes after dropping her debut to Leslie Smith to earn a title shot against Zhang Weili. "Amandinha" has had mixed fortunes since facing "Magnum," alternating wins over current champion Mackenzie Dern and Iasmin Lucindo with defeats to Virna Jandiroba and Tatiana Suarez. A fast twitch, high output striker, grapplers have proven to be Lemos’ Achilles heel in the past. She was last seen dropping a decision to the aforementioned Suarez, scoring late damage in a fight where she found herself grounded by the American's takedowns. The 38 year old returns to the fold after an injury bounced her from the original pairing with Robertson in December.

Gillian Robertson: Can "The Savage" insert her name into title contention?

A seasoned veteran across two UFC weight classes, Gillian Robertson (16-8), has quietly put together a four fight win streak, beating the likes of Marina Rodriguez, Michelle Waterson-Gomez, and Polyana Viana since coming up short to Tabatha Ricci in June 2023. Owner of a 13-6 record since joining the promotion as a raw 23 year old prospect, Robertson is known for her prolific finishing acumen as soon as the action hits the mat, holding the record for most stoppages in women’s flyweight history with seven. Much like the original pairing, Robertson is still favored to beat Lemos, although her relative inactivity poses a slight concern; “The Savage” hasn’t fought in almost a year, enduring two soul-crushing fight cancellations in the process.

Amanda Lemos vs Gillian Robertson prediction

While she has the edge in terms of elite experience, this looks to be a bad match up for Lemos. Not only is “Amandinha” 38 at this point in proceedings, but talented grapplers have always been an Achilles heel for the Brazilian. She’s been stopped three times in her career, with two of those losses coming by way of submission.

As such, it’s hard to escape the notion that Robertson could well blitz through her here. Her prolific finishing form at flyweight may not have translated since dropping down to 115 pounds, but she’s still 5-1 in her new weight class and fights with the same intensity. Whatever the weight, “The Savage” remains a relentless submission threat once she can drag things to the mat, never letting up in her efforts to advance position, land heavy ground and pound, or lock up a choke.

Given the drastic contrast in form and momentum between the two fighters, it’s hard to see a path to victory for Lemos that doesn’t involve a shocking KO out of nowhere; not a good sign considering that Robertson hasn’t been knocked out since 2019 and “Amandinha” hasn’t scored a finish since 2022. Lemos could conceivably roll back the years here, but the safer pick remains Robertson by submission or dominant decision.

Prediction: Gillian Robertson to win
