Andre Fili: Veteran gatekeeper in the twilight of his UFC career

Andre “Touchy” Fili (25-12) is one of the most experienced featherweights on the roster with 25 UFC appearances spanning over a decade. The Team Alpha Male product has a fight history looking like a Christmas tree alternating between wins and losses in his last eight fights, most recently beating Christian Rodriguez in a split decision before being submitted by Melquizael Costa via first-round guillotine. Fili is the ultimate gatekeeper only losing to strong contenders in; Costa, Dan Ige and Nathaniel Wood in recent history. The 35-year-old switches stances constantly and works behind a long jab, mixing in leg kicks and feints to manage distance. However, Fili lacks genuine knockout power – even when he lands clean, his shots don’t carry the same sting as a lot of his opponents. He also rests his chin high during pocket exchanges and isn’t the most defensively responsible when trading, vulnerabilities that have been exploited by sharper strikers throughout his career.

Jose Miguel Delgado: Dynamic rising prospect with vicious finishing ability

Jose Delgado (10-2) fights out of Phoenix Arizona and has quickly established himself as an exciting young striker in the featherweight division. Delgado made an instant impact in the UFC with finishes over Connor Matthews and Hyder Amil before narrowly losing a competitive decision to Nathaniel Wood, in which many spectators felt could have gone either way. Delgado possesses excellent lateral movement, a dynamic striking arsenal, and throws with malicious intent. His fight performances have shown that he picks his shots well with the only notable weakness being a tendency to drop his lead hand when throwing kicks, leaving him open to counters on occasion.

Andre Fili vs Jose Miguel Delgado prediction

On paper, the experience gap is obvious. However, Delgado’s dynamic movement and striking variety should present major problems for Fili. Fili tends to switch stances within range, which is dangerous against someone with Delgado’s timing and accuracy, catching him mid-switch with his feet crossed could lead to a knockdown or worse.

On the feet, Delgado holds clear advantages in power, accuracy, and shot selection. His lateral footwork will make it difficult for Fili to track, and his ability to mix kicks, knees, and spinning strikes into his combinations creates constant threats from multiple angles. Fili’s habit of being defensively irresponsible during exchanges is a recipe for disaster against a striker of Delgado’s calibre. Delgado will look to pressure Fili onto the fence with his striking, and may cheekily throw spinning shots on the exit after drawing the veteran into an exchange.

Fili may find some success with his feints and striking at range, and the takedown timing he showed against Rodriguez may come into play, but his lack of control on the ground means even a successful shot might not yield too much. Delgado to win is an absolute lock here.

Prediction: Jose Delgado to win by KO/ TKO
