Udinese preview: Steady Friulians

Udinese come into this one on the back of an entertaining 5-3 defeat to defending champions Internazionale at San Siro last weekend in a game in which they had raced themselves into a 2-0 lead early on against the Nerazzurri.

Udinese, still under the management of Kosta Runjaic, have been steady once again at the start of this season after back-to-back mid-table finishes ahead of the 2026-27 Serie A campaign.

Cagliari preview: Strong start for the Sardinians

Cagliari were expected to be involved in another relegation battle this season with Fabio Pisacane remaining at the helm but the Sardinians have won three of their opening four matches for the first time since the glory days of Gigi Riva.

Cagliari’s third win of the campaign came at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo as goals from Paul Mendy and Daniel Maldini gave them a 2-1 victory against Maurizio Sarri’s Atalanta last weekend.

Udinese team news: A few issues

Udinese are dealing with quite a few key injury absentees for this weekend, including defender Oumar Solet and versatile attacker Nicolo Zaniolo.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Okoye; Abankwah, Kabasele, Ebosse; Vojvoda, Karlstrom, Miller, Kamara; Unai Gomez, Ekkelenkamp; Davis

Unavailable: Solet (Injured), Palma (Injured), Juan Arizala (Injured), Piotrowski (Injured), Zanoli (Injured), Zaniolo (Injured)

Questionable:

Cagliari team news: The Maldini debacle

After a strong start to the season including their winner last week, Daniel Maldini has since been involved in a car accident with speculation that some misdemeanours may also come out of that and so his involvement has to be a doubt despite what the club have suggested thus far.

Predicted XI (4-1-2-1-2): Caprile; Ze Pedro, Deiola, Juan Rodriguez, Obert; Winks; Romano, Fazzini; Adopo; Maldini, Mendy

Unavailable: Idrissi (Injured), Trepy (Injured), Felici (Injured)

Questionable: Ze Pedro (Injured), Felici (Injured), Maldini (Disciplinary)

Udinese vs Cagliari prediction

Udinese have now suffered two defeats but one was a forgivable one with a strong performance against Inter, with the other being a frustrating 2-1 loss against unbeaten Lazio in a game in which they led late on. Cagliari, on the other hand, have just one defeat and that, too, involved them being competitive against the champions Inter. As a result, these are two sides in a good mood at the moment and so both teams scoring would appear a decent bet on Saturday.

Udinese vs Cagliari tip: Both teams to score
