Spain team news: Strong Spanish squad

Spain have an impressive and high quality squad that consists of the likes of Irene Paredes, Aitama Bonmati and Alexia Putellas. They will be without Teresa Abelleira, as she is missing due to a knee injury.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Coll; Batlle, Paredes, Aleixandri, Olga; Guijarro, Putellas, Caldentey; Pina, Paralluelo, Athenea

Portugal team news: Kika Nazareth injury

Much like Teresa Abelleira, Portugal also have a key injury absentee ahead of the tournament as Kika Nazareth is unavailable due to an ankle injury. Francisco Neto is expected to name a three-at-the-back system.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Pereira; Costa, Seica, Borges; Gomes, Jacino, Do. Silva, Norton, Amado; J. Silva, Di. Silva

Spain vs Portugal prediction

Coached by Montserrat Tome, the Spanish still have issues between the players and the federation but the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup winners head into the UEFA Women’s European Championships as one of the leading contenders. They won the UEFA Women’s Nations League last year but, surprisingly, finished fourth at the Olympics.

Portuguese women’s football is perhaps behind where it should be, but they did manage to qualify for the tournament as one of the seven playoff winners. In their playoffs, they managed to comfortably defeat Azerbaijan by eight goals to one on aggregate, under the management of Francisco Neto.

In something of a so-called ‘group of death’ alongside Italy and Belgium, the start is important and the Spanish will be expected to win their opener quite comfortably.
