Schalke 04 preview: Win in the books

Schalke 04 picked up their first win of the season back in the Bundesliga since promotion from the second tier away at Union Berlin. A clinical performance saw them emerge as 1-3 victors in the capital and they now return home looking to pick up a first three points in front of their own fans, having already held Bayern Munich to a goalless draw.

Whilst that draw saw them lean heavily upon their defence and goalkeeper Lloris Karius, Schalke will hope for more possession in this game and more chances to come their way against a fellow newly promoted side whom they know well following last season in 2. Bundesliga.

SV Elversberg preview: Close call

SV Elversberg’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end last Sunday but they pushed Bayern Munich extremely hard. It didn’t look like that would be the case when the Rekordmeister took the lead before half-time, but Elversberg responded in the second half, equalising through Maurice Krattenmacher just past the hour mark.

While Bayern would have the final say as Harry Kane sealed three points, plenty of positives can be taken from the 1-2 defeat and Elversberg remain well place in the Bundesliga table with six points from their first three matches.

Schalke 04 team news: Pair of question marks

Both Gantenbein and Lasme are injury doubts for Schalke 04, who are set to be without Hojlund and Ljubicic for this encounter.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Karius; Becker, Katic, Kurucay; Dina Ebimbe, El-Faouzi, Tanaka, Gosens; Karaman, Adamu, Aouchiche

Unavailable: Hojlund (Injured), Ljubicic (Injured)

Questionable: Gantenbein (Injured), Lasme (Injured)

SV Elversberg team news: Seifert out

Defender Luis Seifert is the only confirmed injury absentee for SV Elversberg, with Vincent Wagner set to make a late call on both Onyeka and Zimmerschied.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kristof; Gyamerah, Pinckert, Rohr, Gunther; Keidel, Poreba; Petkov, Darvich, Krattenmacher; Mokwa

Unavailable: Seifert (Injured)

Questionable: Onyeka (Injured), Zimmerschied (Fitness)

Schalke 04 vs SV Elversberg prediction

Schalke 04 were victorious on both occasions that these two clubs clashed in 2. Bundesliga last season and with home advantage in their favour, they’ll be confident of success again on this occasion. Although SV Elversberg have been superb across the campaign so far, there are still question marks over their backline, especially on the road.

What Schalke have shown is that they are capable of shutting down an opponent if needed and can soak up pressure when off the ball. But in Gelsenkirchen, you would expect them to enjoy more of the ball and create more opportunities. With the crowd behind them, back Miron Muslic’s men to come out on top.
