Having beaten Qarabag, who reached the knockout playoffs of the UEFA Champions League last season, to the Azeri title, Sabah are now a tie away from guaranteeing themselves some form of league phase football in UEFA competition this season. They defeated The New Saints by four goals to one on aggregate in the first qualifying round.

They now face a Kuopion Palloseura side that reached the knockout playoff stage of the UEFA Europa Conference League last season, having emerged as the best team in Finland over the last couple of years. KuPS managed to edge past North Macedonian champions Vardar after extra-time in the first qualifying round last week.

KuPS were fortunate to squeeze themselves through against Vardar and Sabah will fancy themselves here, especially with their home advantage.
