Real Madrid preview: Finding a way
In the league phase of the UEFA Champions League in midweek, Real Madrid produced one of their greatest escapes as they came from 3-1 down with seven minutes of normal time to go to win by four goals to three at Stadio Olimpico against Roma.
Jose Mourinho’s Los Blancos were also fairly average in terms of their performance level at the Bernabeu against Villarreal last week, but they found a way with ten men to edge past the Yellow Submarine by a goal to nil.
Sevilla preview: Strong start
Luis Garcia Plaza is in charge of a Sevilla side that remain in a tough spot off the pitch but the Andalusians have overperformed expectations thus far, albeit they will be frustrated by their 3-3 draw against Levante last week.
Sevilla were 2-0 up before Levante fought back and notched a stunning equaliser via Adrian de la Fuente in stoppage-time. Isaac Romero re-established the lead with his own brilliant goal before being sent off in his celebration, allowing Levante to pressurise and equalise again in the 99th minute.
Real Madrid team news: Vinicius Junior suspended
After a hair pull last week, Vinicius Junior is now missing through suspension with Yan Diomande, the match winner from last week, likely starting here.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Dean Huijsen, Cucurella; Fede Valverde, Tchouameni; Guler, Bellingham, Diomande; Mbappe
Unavailable: Eder Militao (Injured), Raul Asencio (Injured), Rodrygo (Injured), Vinicius Junior (Suspended)
Questionable: Mendy (Injured)
Sevilla team news: Isaac Romero suspended
After a brace last week, Isaac Romero now finds himself suspended with Georgia international midfielder Giorgi Kochorashvili also a doubt due to injury.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Vlachodimos; Juan Iglesias, Castrin, Kike Salas, Suazo; Agoume, Fofana; Gatito, Alfon, Correia; Ure
Unavailable: Marcao (Injured), Jon Guridi (Injured), Miguel Sierra (Injured), Isaac Romero (Suspended)
Questionable: Kochorashvili (Injured), Stassin (Fitness)
Real Madrid vs Sevilla prediction
Real Madrid have been unconvincing in victory after the international break, having headed into that three-week break on the back of a defeat to Atletico Madrid and Jose Mourinho moving his way through his now classic disrespect of media and referees. Sevilla will fancy themselves to pose a threat against Madrid, using the example of a fairly conservative Villarreal side to understand Madrid are there to be got at so, while backing Madrid, it may not be straightforward for the hosts once again.
