Real Madrid, unbeaten after four games in Liga F this season, were going along nicely in the Women's Champions League last season until they ran into Spanish rivals and eventual champions Barcelona in the quarter-finals, with the Catalan giants running out 12-2 winners on aggregate in a hugely one-sided tie.
Be that as it may, Las Blancas invariably beat the teams they were supposed to last season, including a 2-1 victory against Paris SG on Matchday 2 of the inaugural league phase. Pau Quesada's side navigated their way through qualifying this season, successfully seeing off Ajax 4-1 on aggregate in the third qualifying round.
