Napoli Preview: Chasing history once again

Antonio Conte spent his summer whinging about Napoli’s lack of business but after spending £100 million, they recovered from a 3-0 loss in the reverse fixture to Verona on the opening day of the campaign to be legitimate title challengers for their fourth ever Scudetto.

Napoli began 2025 with an impressive performance at the Artemio Franchi last weekend, defeating high flying Fiorentina by three goals to nil last weekend. David Neres opened the scoring in that match before second-half strikes from Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay.

Hellas Verona Preview: A draw at last

As mentioned, Hellas Verona began the 2024/25 Serie A season with a remarkable and surprising 3-0 demolition of Napoli at Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi. Since then, though, they have suffered 12 defeats in their next 18 matches.

However, the visitors come into this one on the back of a couple of impressive results. They backed up a surprise 3-2 win away at Bologna in the final game of 2024 by sharing a goalless draw with Udinese last weekend, despite being down to ten men.

Napoli Team News: ‘Kvaradona’ doubts on and off the pitch

Amid rumours that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia could leave the club this month, he is also an injury doubt for the hosts due to a knee issue. Key centre-back Alessandro Buongiorni remains unavailable due to a back injury.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Juan, Spinazzola; Anguissa, Lobotka, McTominay; David Neres, Lukaku, Raspadori

Unavailable: Buongiorno (Injured)

Questionable: Mathias Olivera (Injured), Kvaratskhelia (Injured), Politano (Injured)

Hellas Verona Team News: Couple of suspensions

Hellas Verona are dealing with a couple of suspensions ahead of the visit to Naples with the absences of Jackson Tchatchoua and Suat Serdar. The likes of Abdou Harroui and Martin Frese are also out injured for this weekend.

Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): Montipo; Dawidowicz, Coppola, Ghilardi; Belahyane, Lazovic, Duda, Bradaric; Suslov; Sarr, Tengstedt

Unavailable: Frese (Injured), Serdar (Suspended), Tchatchoua (Suspended), Harroui (Injured), Juan Manuel Cruz (Injured)

Questionable:

Napoli vs Hellas Verona Prediction

Napoli are at the top-of-the-table in Serie A under Antonio Conte but there remains a mood of discontent with fairly underwhelming performances, a dogged style of football and now the potential departure of ‘Kvaradona’. They face a Hellas Verona side that have been wildly inconsistent throughout the campaign and do carry a potent threat in the final third but it gets to a point where you simply have to back Conte’s Neapolitans to consistently grind out victories.

Napoli vs Hellas Verona Tip: Napoli to win & under 3.5 goals
