Monza preview: Steady start

Following their promotion back to the top-flight, Monza have been competitive at the start of this season and that continued the other day but they have collected just one point from their opening four matches in Serie A.

Once again competitive, Monza succumbed to a 3-2 defeat to likely fellow strugglers Lecce at Stadio Comunale Via del Mare in Apulia in a game in which they were 3-1 down in 21 minutes before a late consolation scored by Exequiel Zeballos.

Sassuolo preview: Strong Sassuolo

Despite the departure of Fabio Grosso to Fiorentina over the summer, who has now been sacked by I Viola, Sassuolo have started strongly and that continued with a famous and dramatic victory against Juventus last weekend.

Up against the Bianconeri at the Mapei Stadium, Sassuolo snatched a dramatic 3-2 victory in Reggio Emilia, with Juventus loanee Vasilije Adzic scoring a 94th minute winner after Edon Zhegrova had equalised for Juve in second half stoppage-time.

Monza team news: A few doubts

Monza have a few injury doubts for this one with midfielder Riccardo Mangas now dealing with an ankle injury, while Jan Ziolkowski and Matteo Pessina are confirmed absentees.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Thiam; Kouadio, Lucchesi, Carboni; Birindelli, Folorunsho, Akinsanmiro, Forson; Colpani, Robinson; Varela

Unavailable: Ziolkowski (Injured), Pessina (Injured)

Questionable: Toure (Injured), Mangas (Injured), Ciurria (Injured), Ngonge (Injured)

Sassuolo team news: Couple of doubts

Indonesia international centre-back Jay Idzes is now a doubt due to a thigh injury with fellow defender Sebastian Walukiewicz working his way back to full fitness.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Muric; Cinquegrano, Caleta-Car, Leysen, Doig; Thorstvedt, Matic, Lipani; Berardi, Esposito, Lauriente

Unavailable: Cande (Injured), Pieragnolo (Injured), Kone (Injured), Boloca (Injured), Volpato (Injured)

Questionable: Walukiewicz (Injured), Idzes (Injured)

Monza vs Sassuolo prediction

The end to Sassuolo’s win against Juve is perhaps emblematic of the entertaining way in which they play, taking the lead in the 65th minute before Zhegrova got his first equaliser in the 82nd minute ahead of Scottish forward Kieran Bowie re-establishing their lead in the 89th minute prior to the stoppage-time chaos. Despite being winless, Monza will also be content with the attacking capabilities that they have shown thus far and so both teams scoring may well be a decent bet for this one in Northern Italy on Friday.
