Marseille preview: Tough start

Following the appointment of Bruno Genesio, Olympique de Marseille endured a tough summer with no new signings due to financial issues and l’OM have naturally started the Ligue 1 season slowly.

The hosts come into this one on the back of a 4-1 demolition at the hands of Besiktas in Istanbul in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League, meaning that they have now won just one and lost four of their opening five matches across all competitions.

Paris Saint-Germain preview: Fallible Parisians

Luis Enrique’s back-to-back UEFA Champions League winners have started the season slowly, too, with just five points collected from their opening four matches in the French top-flight.

Luis Enrique admonished his PSG side after they edged past Stade Brest by a goal to nil at Stade Francis-le Ble last weekend, with an early winner provided by FIFA World Cup 2026 winning goal scorer Ferran Torres.

Marseille team news: Nothing fresh

Marseille have a small squad due to their business this summer and so they will be grateful not to have any fresh issues with Geoffrey Kondogbia remaining their only absentee.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): De Lange; Weah, Egan-Riley, Aguerd, Emerson; Abdelli, Hojbjerg; Harit, Gomes, Igor Paixao; Gouiri

Unavailable: Kondogbia (Injured)

Questionable: Nnadi (Injured)

Paris Saint-Germain team news: Hakimi a doubt

Illya Zabarnyi remains a doubt for this one after being rested due to slight fitness issues last week, while right-back Achraf Hakimi is dealing with a minor thigh injury.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Safonov; Zaire-Emery, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Dembele, Ferran Torres, Kvaratskhelia

Unavailable:

Questionable: Zabarnyi (Fitness), Hakimi (Injured)

Marseille vs Paris Saint-Germain prediction

Marseille will have their hostile supporters on their side for this one with their hatred of and for PSG still greater than their desire to criticise and turn on their own team, just about. That should create a fun and entertaining spectacle at the Velodrome. PSG are fallible and so Marseille may well also be able to bloody the nose of their visitors but the Parisians do have to remain the firm favourites down in Southern France.

Marseille vs Paris Saint-Germain tip: Paris Saint-Germain to win & over 2.5 goals
