Lyon preview: Strong Lyon

Paulo Fonseca and his Olympique Lyonnais side come into this one on the back of an impressive 2-1 defeat of Anderlecht in Brussels in the UEFA Europa League in midweek, courtesy of goals scored by Noah Nartey and Keito Nakamura.

Lyon have been strong at the start of this season in Ligue 1, too, with two victories and two defeats in their four matches; most recently holding high-flying Paris FC to a goalless draw at Stade Jean-Bouin the capital city last weekend.

Rennes preview: Strong Rennes

Unlike Lyon, Stade Rennais were held to a goalless draw in Europe in midweek as they shared the spoils with Austrian outfit Sturm Graz. Like Lyon, though, Rennes have also started their domestic campaign well with three wins and a draw in their four matches.

Domestically, Rennes most recently defeated Olympique de Marseille by a goal to nil at Roazhon Park last weekend with a 52nd minute strike scored by versatile midfielder Adrien Thomasson.

Lyon team news: Fully fit

Lyon head into this weekend and the visit of Rennes with a fully fit and available squad for this one with no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues.

Predicted XI (4-1-2-1-2): Greif; Athekame, Bacher, Niakhate, Abner; Morton; Bidstrup, Tolisso; Sulc; Nuamah, Openda

Rennes team news: Fully fit

Just like Lyon, Rennes may well rotate after their clash in Europe the other day but they, too, have a fully fit and available squad as they travel to Lyon.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Samba; Frankowski, Cresswell, Rouault, Nagida; Camara, Rongier, Thomasson; Blas, Lepaul, Soumare

Lyon vs Rennes prediction

Ever since the appointment of former Lens boss Franck Haise, Rennes have been exceptional throughout the last six or so months and they will expect to compete for UEFA Champions League qualification this season. Lyon themselves are a tough side and awkward to play against with their ability to control the ball – but they may well be more proactive against an entertaining Rennes side here and so both teams scoring may well be a decent bet for this one on Saturday night.

Lyon vs Rennes tip: Both teams to score
