Leolia Jeanjean booked her place in the next round of the Madrid Open after a straight sets win over Oksana Selekhmeteva. She was a break down in the first set, but Jeanjean then won six games in a row to go a set and a break up. Jeanjean maintained her level to win 6-4 6-1 after 90 minutes.
She now faces Coco Gauff. The American began her clay court campaign in Stuttgart last week. Gauff won her first match against Liudmila Samsonova but then fell to her first ever defeat against Karolina Muchova, losing in three sets. Gauff is still searching for a title in 2026, with her best result coming at the Miami Open, where she lost in the final to world number one Aryna Sabalenka.
Gauff leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a resounding win at the 2022 US Open. The two-time Grand Slam singles champion performed well here last season, reaching the final but losing to Sabalenka once more.
