Japan are continuing to build despite a frustrating FIFA World Cup as Samurai Blue now take on new look two-time world champions Uruguay this week.

Japan vs Uruguay prediction
Japan reached the round of 32 of FIFA World Cup 2026 in North America and they had the lead against Brazil before the Selecao earned a late winner via Gabriel Martinelli. The Japanese had been, as ever, good to watch despite Hajime Moriyasu having to deal with a plethora of key injuries, such as Wataru Endo, Takumi Minamino and Kaoru Mitoma.
Uruguay were perhaps the biggest surprise group stage exit over the summer with Marcelo Bielsa having since been let go after a disastrous few months in charge of the South Americans after his reign had been strong for a couple of years. He has been replaced by former Uruguay captain Diego Forlan.
What Diego Forlan’s Uruguay looks like is anyone’s guess and it would have to be said that Japan are simply a better side than them right now.
