‘Spygate’ has dominated the build-up to this Championship playoff final at Wembley Stadium with Hull City facing Middlesbrough – and not Southampton on Saturday.

Hull vs Middlesbrough prediction

Hull City have been left in limbo amid ‘spygate’ but the Tigers will already be extremely content with their impressive campaign thus far. After squeezing into the top six on the final day of the campaign, they then defeated Millwall by two goals to nil in the second-leg of their semi-final at The Den with goals from Joe Gelhardt and Mohamed Belloumi.

Middlesbrough have been reinstated in the Championship playoffs after Southampton’s expulsion due to Saints admitting to their spying practices. ‘Boro were top-of-the-table back in mid-February but more or less collapsed in the spring before actually losing that playoff semi-final after extra-time against Southampton at St Mary’s.

The Teessiders, including those playoff games, have won just two of their last 12 games but the sheer unexpected excitement of actually being involved at Wembley may indeed mean the cliché of the form going out of the window is very much true here.

Hull have been hard done by here. They have been one of the more entertaining teams to watch in the second-tier and both teams scoring may well be a good bet for this one as Kim Hellberg’s ‘Boro, given a second chance, won’t want to go down with a whimper.

Hull vs Middlesbrough tip: Both teams to score
