Fiorentina preview: Beaten by the champions
Fiorentina were left frustrated by a 2-1 defeat to defending champions Internazionale at San Siro at the weekend, having led going into second half stoppage-time before a 98th minute penalty scored by Piotr Zielinski snatched Inter a late win.
I Viola spent heavily over the summer and managed to poach Fabio Grosso from Sassuolo as they sought to move away from a relegation battle like last season but Grosso’s poor start led to his sacking and the return of Paolo Vanoli.
Atalanta preview: Thrilling draw
Atalanta head into this one on an absolutely thrilling 4-4 draw at home to the surprise package in Serie A this season, Frosinone, in a game in which they were 2-0, 3-2 and 4-3 up at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo.
The Bergamasci are now in quite poor form in Serie A after a tough and inconsistent start to the campaign following the appointment of former Chelsea and Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri over the summer.

Fiorentina vs Atalanta prediction
Atalanta are trying to adapt themselves to the fairly complex and, as a result, often dull and fairly tedious ‘Sarri-ball’ style of football. They were involved in a thriller last week but that was more Frosinone dragging them into a bit of fun. Lacking fun and form, they head to a Fiorentina side that put in an improved performance at San Siro last week and perhaps siding with the hosts would be a good value bet for this one on Thursday.
Fiorentina vs Atalanta tip: Double chance – Fiorentina to win or draw
