Empoli preview: In the bottom three

Empoli head into the final day of the campaign sitting in the bottom three on goal difference but they could also even leapfrog their opposition this weekend with a better head-to-head record, having beaten Hellas Verona by four goals to one in the reverse fixture at the Bentegodi.

Roberto D’Aversa’s side started the season reasonably well before a major and prolonged collapse. However, they do come into this one on the back of back-to-back victories, having most recently beaten bottom-of-the-table Monza by three goals to one last week.

Hellas Verona preview: Outside of the bottom three

Former Empoli boss Paolo Zanetti remains in charge of a Hellas Verona side that have been more or less ‘win or bust’ throughout the campaign but even those victories have dried up to drag them back into the Serie A relegation battle.

The visitors come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Como at the Marcantonio Bentegodi on the penultimate match day of the campaign last weekend thanks to a 69th minute equaliser scored by attacking midfielder Darko Lazovic.

Empoli team news: Several injuries

Empoli have several injury issues to deal with for this weekend as defender Saba Sazonov is sidelined alongside midfielders Youssef Maleh, Nicolas Haas and Szymon Zurkowski as well as attacking duo Christian Kouame and Pietro Pellegri.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Devis Vasquez; Marianucci, Ismajli, Viti; Gyasi, Henderson, Grassi, Pezzella; Fazzini, Cacace; Esposito

Unavailable: Sazonov (Injured), Maleh (Injured), Haas (Injured), Zurkowski (Injured), Kouame (Injured), Pellegri (Injured)

Questionable:

Hellas Verona team news: Nothing fresh

Hellas Verona do not have to deal with any fresh injury concerns or suspension issues ahead of the visit to Stadio Carlo Castellani this weekend. They do, though, remain without midfielder Abdou Harroui due to a knee injury.

Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): Montipo; Ghilardi, Coppola, Valentini; Tchatchoua, Dawidowicz, Serdar, Bradaric; Bernede; Tengstedt, Sarr

Unavailable: Harroui (Injured)

Questionable:

Empoli vs Hellas Verona prediction

Empoli can get to 34 points and overtake Hellas Verona in the Serie A table this season. The Florence-based outfit have found some form just in the nick of time as the teams above them are Verona as well as Lecce and Parma, who face Lazio and Parma respectively. Verona have, as mentioned, been win or bust. The thing is, though, they are now winless in their last eight matches and Empoli to get themselves a much-needed victory is the way to go for this one.

Empoli vs Hellas Verona tip: Double chance – Empoli to win or draw
