Elena Pridankina vs Paula Badosa prediction

Elena Pridankina enters the tournament in Hong Kong as a lucky loser, following a loss in the final stage of qualifying. She won the first set against Himeno Sakatsume but would go on to lose in three. She is ranked outside the top 200 and has failed to advance beyond the quarter-finals of any tournaments in 2026.

Pridankina faces former world number two Paula Badosa in round one. Badosa looked on course for a deep run in Guangzhou as she swept aside Carol Young Suh Lee and Sinja Kraus to advance to the quarter-finals. The Spaniard took the lead against Harriet Dart, but lost momentum as Dart went on to win 3-6 6-2 6-4. That would have been a blow for Badosa, who is looked to end a frustrating 2026 on a high. Her best tour-level result of the campaign was a runner up appearance at the Iasi Open during the summer.

I still expect Badosa to have far too much quality in this opening round match.
