In the first-leg of this CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores quarter-final tie at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi in La Plata, Estudiantes took a fourth minute lead via Alexis Castro before Kaio Cesar earned Corinthians parity early on in the second half.
Corinthians have since gone on to be beaten 2-1 by Flamengo in the Brazilian Serie A as they have now suffered five successive defeats in the league. Estudiantes instead overcame Platense by two goals to one in the Argentine Clausura, where they have too underperformed in recent times.
These are two fallible sides and a low-scoring contest again seems likely for this second-leg at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo.
