Brighton preview: Seagulls aiming for Europe

If Manchester City defeat Brighton’s arch-rivals Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final this weekend then eighth will be guaranteed European football next season. If Chelsea win the UEFA Europa Conference League but finish outside of the top five then ninth will be assured of Europe, too.

The Seagulls come into this one on the back of a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux last weekend thanks to goals from Danny Welbeck and Brajan Gruda. They have now suffered one defeat in their last five matches in the Premier League.

Liverpool preview: Reds on holiday

Arne Slot and his Liverpool side are away on holiday in Ibiza ahead of the final couple of games of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign with the Reds having already wrapped up the title but perhaps now taking the rest of the season off.

Since winning the title, Liverpool have collected one point from two matches with a 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea being followed up by a 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Anfield in a game in which they did lead the Gunners by two goals to nil.

Brighton team news: Joao Pedro returns

Key attacker Joao Pedro has returned for the hosts after serving a three-match suspension. Defensive duo Lewis Dunk and Joel Veltman have also returned from respective injury issues. There is hope that Kaoru Mitoma will be available, whilst Georginio Rutter could feature on the final day of the campaign.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Wieffer, Van Hecke, Webster, Estupinan; Baleba, Ayari; Lamptey, O’Riley, Minteh; Welbeck

Unavailable: Kadioglu (Injured), Milner (Injured), March (Injured), Rutter (Injured)

Questionable: Dunk (Injured), Veltman (Injured)

Liverpool team news: TAA start seems unlikely

Arne Slot was guarded about the possibility of Trent Alexander-Arnold starting again this weekend after he was booed by Liverpool supporters when he was introduced in the second-half against Arsenal. Northern Ireland international Conor Bradley seems likely to start at right-back once again.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Bradley, Konate, Quansah, Tsimikas; Endo, Jones; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Nunez

Unavailable: Gomez (Injured)

Questionable:

Brighton vs Liverpool prediction

Brighton and Hove Albion are a streaky side but they appear to have stumbled upon one of their positive streaks just in the nick of time as they push for a top eight or nine finish and a return to European competition. They now take on a Liverpool side that will likely only properly focus on the final day when they will lift the trophy and they could well be suffering from a hangover, too. Brighton’s form, home advantage and added motivation makes backing them seem a sensible bet.

Brighton vs Liverpool tip: Brighton to win
