The so-called ‘Moneyball’ derby takes place at the AMEX Stadium down on the south coast this weekend as Brighton and Hove Albion face Brentford.

Brighton preview: Inconsistent Seagulls

There is a bit of frustration within the Brighton and Hove Albion fanbase with manager Fabian Hurzeler, as they often fail to take the initiative and often give up easy points at home as they look set for another mid-table finish in the Premier League.

The Seagulls have started the Premier League season with four victories, four draws and three defeats. They most recently shared a goalless draw with arch-rivals Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park a couple of weeks ago.

Brentford preview: Buzzing Bees

Brentford begin the 12th match day of the campaign sitting just below the Seagulls on goal difference with the Bees having overperformed pre-season expectations, following a tumultuous and difficult summer.

Brentford earned themselves a fifth win of the Premier League campaign before the break as they came from behind to defeat Newcastle United by three goals to one with Kevin Schade scoring before a match-winning Igor Thiago brace.

Brighton team news: Mitoma a doubt but Gruda fit

Frustratingly for Fabian Hurzeler, Japan international winger Kaoru Mitoma remains a doubt for the Seagulls this weekend but fellow injury concern Brajan Gruda has been passed fit.

Jack Hinshelwood has also been made available alongside Yasin Ayari but they remain without experienced trio Adam Webster and James Milner, as well as Solly March.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Wieffer, Van Hecke, Dunk, Kadioglu; Baleba, Ayari; Minteh, Rutter, Gomez; Welbeck

Unavailable: Webster (Injured), Milner (Injured), March (Injured)

Questionable: Mitoma (Injured)

Brentford team news: Carvalho out for the season

After reports suggesting he would be trying to force a move away in the January transfer window, former Portugal and England youth international Fabio Carvalho is now out for the rest of the season due to an ACL injury.

The Bees do have Kristoffer Ajer available after he came through international duty with Norway, but they remain without midfield duo Antoni Milambo and Josh Dasilva, due to longer-term injury issues.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Kayode, Ajer, Van den Berg, Hickey; Henderson, Yarmolyuk; Ouattara, Damsgaard, Schade; Thiago

Unavailable: Milambo (Injured), Dasilva (Injured), Carvalho (Injured)

Questionable:

Brighton vs Brentford prediction

The criticism of Keith Andrews this season would be that his team are set up to be functional and exploit the weaknesses of the so-called ‘better’ or ‘bigger’ sides in the Premier League. That can limit them against inferior opposition but Brighton still perhaps don’t fall into that category, as well as the fact that Brighton will try and dominate the ball. As a result, it may be a smart and value bet to side with the away team.

Brighton vs Brentford tip: Double chance – Brentford to win or draw
