Malaga preview: Rise back to La Liga

Financial difficulties have seen Malaga suffer quite a lot in the last decade but the Andalusians have finally, and perhaps surprisingly, returned to La Liga after winning the Segunda Division play-offs last season.

Their opening game of the season saw them succumb to a 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano a few days ago with late strikes scored by Lee Kang-in and Alex Baena in a game in which Malaga had held Atleti until deep into the second half.

Deportivo La Coruna preview: Super Depor

One of the biggest clubs in Spain, Deportivo La Coruna have had their fair share of financial issues that even saw them fall as far as the third-tier but, runners’ up to Racing Santander in the second-tier, the Galicians have returned to the top-flight.

After an impressive summer transfer window thus far, Depor showcased that with new signings Lorenzo Amatucci and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang combining to give them an early lead against Elche before Elche equalised late on in the second half in their opener at Riazor.

Malaga team news: Several absentees

Young striker Aaron Ochoa remains suspended after being sent off in the play-off final while new signing Fernando Calero is sidelined alongside fellow defender Moussa Diarra, who has been linked with a move away.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Alfonso Herrera; Carlos Puga, Angel Recio, Einar Galilea, Rafita; David Larrubia, Dani Lorenzo, Izan Merino, Joaquin Munoz; Chupete, Carlos Dotor

Unavailable: Fernando Calero (Injured), Diarra (Injured), Diego Murillo (Injured), Juanpe (Injured), Aaron Ochoa (Suspended), Adrian Nino (Injured)

Questionable:

Deportivo La Coruna team news: Yeremay still a doubt

Yeremay Hernandez has been linked with a big money move away to Hull City and he missed their opening game against Elche due toa  groin injury sustained in pre-season.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Leo Roman; Ximi Navarro, Noubi, Ede, Quagliata; Mario Soriano, Amatucci; Adria Altimira, Nsongo, Asp Jensen; Aubameyang

Unavailable: Noe Carrillo (Injured)

Questionable: Yeremay (Injured)

Malaga vs Deportivo La Coruna prediction

This is a huge early opportunity for both of these sides to get a crucial three points. Malaga were able to be obdurate until Atletico made changes in Madrid but they remained fairly lacklustre in attack, despite Atleti’s struggles defensively in recent seasons and a young defence that they named. Deportivo will be confident of being awkward to play against while also boasting a cutting edge and a point of difference with Aubameyang up-front so siding with the visitors may well be a good value bet here.

Malaga vs Deportivo La Coruna tip: Double chance – Deportivo La Coruna to win or draw
