Borussia Monchengladbach preview: Sorry Gladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach started the 2026-27 Bundesliga season with a 3-0 hammering at the hands of RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena due to goals scored by Ridle Baku, Antonio Nusa and Rocco Reitz – the latter making a controversial switch from Gladbach this summer.

Eugen Polanski is in charge of a Borussia Monchengladbach side that, contributed to by the sale of Reitz, have supporter unrest and a malaise of the last few years to rectify.

Elversberg preview: Impressive start

Elversberg is the smallest town in Germany to ever be represented in the Bundesliga, even smaller than Hoffenheim, following their shock promotion to the top-flight last year under the management of Vincent Wagner.

The Black and Whites got off the mark with a thrilling 3-2 victory against Bayer Leverkusen, too, going 3-0 up early on in the second half before late strikes scored by Patrick Schick and Christian Kofane.

Borussia Monchengladbach team news: Hashioka a doubt

Former Luton Town defender Daiki Hashioka is a doubt for this one due to a neck injury with Yukhym Konoplya and Jens Castrop remaining sidelined for the hosts.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Nicolas; Scally, Itakura, Diks, Ullrich; Sander, Stoger; Mohya, Bolin, Hack; Kleindienst

Unavailable: Konoplya (Injured), Castrop (Injured)

Questionable: Hashioka (Injured), Chiarodia (Injured), Uno (Injured), Cvancara (Injured)

Elversberg team news: A couple of issues

Elversberg have no fresh injury concerns for this one but they do have a couple of issues as Luis Seifert is sidelined and Tom Zimmerschied remains a doubt, too.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kristof; Gyamerah, Rohr, Pinckert, Gunther; Keidel, Poreba; Petkov, Onyeka, Campbell; Mokwa

Unavailable: Seifert (Injured)

Questionable: Zimmerschied (Injured)

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Elversberg prediction

Borussia Monchengladbach comfortably survived and pushed themselves into the middle-of-the-table at the back end of the Bundesliga campaign last year. However, Polanski is beginning under pressure and they were poor last week. Elversberg were fun to watch last week but are likely to regularly set up to be difficult to beat and the hosts may well lack the fluency and quality to punish that and so a low-scoring encounter seems a decent bet for this one.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Elversberg tip: Under 2.5 goals
