Bologna preview: Impressive season
Bologna have been in the hunt for a top four finish and potential UEFA Champions League qualification this season but the Emilio-Romagna-based outfit have instead slipped away from that, albeit they won’t be too fussed having ended their trophy drought.
The hosts defeated AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico last week to win their first trophy in over 50 years but that was followed by the end of their top four hopes due to an entertaining 3-2 loss at the Artemio Franchi in Florence against Fiorentina last weekend.
Genoa preview: Vieira’s Genoa
In the November international break, former Crystal Palace and Strasbourg boss Patrick Vieira took charge of Genoa after the surprise sacking of Alberto Gilardino but the Frenchman has justified his appointment as they eased themselves away from the danger zone.
They aren’t finishing the season too well, though, as they come into this one on the back of a 3-2 loss to Atalanta last weekend to mean they have now collected just two points from their last six matches in Serie A.
Bologna team news: Juan Miranda suspended
Bologna will be without key left-back Juan Miranda through suspension for the visit of Genoa on the final day of the campaign, whilst fellow defender Martin Erlic is also missing through injury. They also have key doubts, too, such as Jens Odgaard and Estanis Pedrola.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Skorupski; Holm, Beukema, Jhon Lucumi, Lykogiannis; Freuler, Ferguson, Fabbian; Orsolini, Castro, Ndoye
Unavailable: Erlic (Injured), Juan Miranda (Suspended)
Questionable: Odgaard (Injured), Pedrola (Injured)
Genoa team news: A few issues
Key loanee Fabio Miretti remains sidelined for Genoa alongside Ukraine international attacking midfielder Ruslan Malinovskiy. They now have a couple of key injury doubts, too, such as defender Johan Vasquez and Ivory Coast international attacker Maxwel Cornet.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Leali; Sabelli, Bani, De Winter, Caricol; Masini, Badelj, Frendrup; Norton-Cuffy, Pinamonti, Vitinha
Unavailable: Miretti (Injured), Malinovskiy (Injured), Balotelli (Out of favour)
Questionable: Johan Vasquez (Injured), Matturro (Injured), Ahanor (Injured), Cornet (Injured)
Bologna vs Genoa prediction
Last weekend, Genoa continued their more entertaining approach with a 3-2 defeat at home to Atalanta in a game in which they twice took the lead via striker Andrea Pinamonti. They have been a lot more defensive and reactive than that throughout the Vieira era, though. They now face a Bologna side that have themselves been brilliant to watch in the last few months and that continued with the aforementioned loss to Fiorentina last week. Bologna are favourites with their home advantage and it could well be another entertaining affair at the end of the season.
