Benjamin Bonzi vs Cameron Norrie prediction
Benjamin Bonzi found form towards the end of the North American hard court swing, winning four tour-level matches in a row to advance to the semi-finals of the Winston-Salem Open. He took the first set against Ignacio Buse, but would go on to lose to the eventual champion. He backed that up with two more wins as he reached the third-round of the US Open. He is ranked exactly 100 in the current world rankings.
His first-round opponent in Lyon is Cameron Norrie. The 2022 Wimbledon semi-finalist’s poor form continued in Shanghai as he was beaten in the first-round by Dalibor Svrcina. That extended his losing run to four matches overall. There have been flashes of quality from Norrie, including a quarter-final run at Indian Wells, but his usual consistency has been lacking. He has also struggled with a rib injury.
They have met on two previous occasions, and the head-to-head is currently 1-1. Norrie defeated Bonzi in five sets at this year’s Australian Open, but the Frenchman won their only meeting indoors, beating Norrie in the final of the 2024 Moselle Open as a qualifier. This is likely to be another close encounter.
