Andrea Guerrieri defeated Martin Damm in the final stage of qualifying to secure his place at the European Open. He is at a career high ranking of 164 in the world. The Italian qualified for the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career at this year’s US Open, losing to Alex de Minaur in the first-round. 

He faces Alex Michelsen in Brussels. Michelsen is still awaiting his first victory on the tour since his superb run to the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows. He was handed a tough draw at the Japan Open, as he faced Carlos Alcaraz in round one. Despite taking the seven-time major champion to three sets, Michelsen would go on to lose. His opening round performance in Shanghai was more disappointing, with the 22-year-old losing to Botic van de Zandschulp in straights.

Despite those recent results, Michelsen is the commanding favourite to win this opening match against Guerrieri.
