Aryna Sabalenka vs Jessica Pegula prediction

Aryna Sabalenka survived her biggest scare of the tournament to beat Linda Noskova in a dramatic quarter-final. The two-time defending champion was 4-2 down in the deciding set, but she fought back to win 7-6 (1) 3-6 7-6 (7) after two hours and 22 minutes. Sabalenka extended her winning streak at Flushing Meadows to 18 matches and has now reached the semi-finals of the US Open on six consecutive occasions.

Jessica Pegula also had to come from behind in the quarter-final, recovering to defeat Emma Navarro in three sets. Pegula struggled for rhythm early on but gradually reduced her errors to win 3-6 6-4 6-3. That was her 50th win of the campaign.

Pegula is into her third straight US Open semi-final and now has the opportunity to overcome the player who has ended her two previous campaigns in New York. Sabalenka beat Pegula 7-5 7-5 in the final two years ago, before coming from behind to win in last year’s semi-final. The world number three did win their most recent meeting in Berlin, but Sabalenka leads 9-4 in the head-to-head overall.

Pegula was not at her best on serve in the quarter-finals, and she will need to improve in that department if she is to bring Sabalenka’s winning run at the tournament to an end.
