Maria Timofeeva vs Teodora Kostovic prediction

Maria Timofeeva will be aiming for a strong end to the season at the Guangzhou Open. The 22-year-old has shown encouraging progression in the 2026 season, as she moved up to a career high of 63 in the rankings earlier this month. She also won four lower-level titles, with the latest occurring in Porto at the end of September. Timofeeva’s last event was at the China Open; she won her first match against Darja Vidmanova before losing to four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in three sets. 

She takes on Teodora Kostovic in round one. Kostovic qualified for this event following wins over Yihan Qu and Anastasia Zakharova. The 19-year-old is now inside the top 150 of the rankings and showed promise in Sao Paulo after progressing to her first tour-level quarter-final.

I expect Timofeeva to begin the match strongly, and she will be the firm favourite to make it through to the next round.
