Wolves preview: Going down

Wolverhampton Wanderers come into this one on the back of their improved and reasonably impressive form under the management of Rob Edwards now giving way to a couple of 2-0 defeats ahead of this one.

After a 2-0 loss at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City, Wolves them succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at home to AFC Bournemouth last week, courtesy of goals scored by Eli Junior Kroupi and Alex Scott.

Chelsea preview: Frustrated in midweek

Following the appointment of Liam Rosenior, Chelsea have played eight matches and they have managed six victories across all competitions but the Blues were left frustrated in the EFL Cup in midweek.

An understandably cautious approach saw Chelsea pose little threat for much of their semi-final second-leg against Arsenal but too much was left too late a toothlessness caused a major issue as they eventually suffered a 4-2 aggregate loss.

Wolves team news: A bit of change

Rob Edwards is able to welcome back Czechia international defender Ladislav Krejci but fellow centre-back Toti is injured, while both Emmanuel Agbadou and Jhon Arias are set to leave the club.

Jorgen Strand Larsen has also departed for Crystal Palace but new signings Angel Gomes and Adam Armstrong are both fit and available to play for the hosts.

Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): Johnstone; Doherty, Mosquera, S. Bueno; R. Gomes, J. Gomes, A. Gomes, H. Bueno; Mane; Hwang, Armstrong

Unavailable: Agbadou (Other), Toti (Injured), Arias (Other)

Questionable:

Chelsea team news: Changes to be expected

As Chelsea make the trip up to Wolverhampton, there is once again expected to be a few changes with suggestions that Liam Rosenior doesn't have full control of when and who gets rested.

Jamie Gittens has joined the confirmed absentee list, while Rosenior has confirmed that both Cole Palmer and Estevao would be available to play a full 90 minutes.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; Gusto, Fofana, Chalobah, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Estevao, Palmer, Garnacho; Pedro

Unavailable: Adarabioyo (Injured), Colwill (Injured), Lavia (Injured), Essugo (Injured), Mudryk (Disciplinary), Gittens (Injured)

Questionable: James (Injured), Neto (Injured)

Wolves vs Chelsea prediction

Prior to that defeat to Arsenal, in which they went to the other extreme, there had been a bit of concern about the Blues’ chaotic nature in come from behind defeats of Napoli and West Ham United. Wolves are likely to help Chelsea get some more control in this game and it may not be overly entertaining for the neutral to watch, with the favourites likely to continue their push for UEFA Champions League qualification with a win.

Wolves vs Chelsea tip: Chelsea to win & under 3.5 goals
