Valencia Preview: Valencian improvement

As mentioned, the appointment of former West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan on Christmas Eve has left Valencia in an excellent position as Los Che try and fight their way out of the bottom three and the relegation places amid off-field issues.

They shared a thrilling 3-3 draw with Osasuna in a topsy turvy clash at El Sadar in Pamplona last weekend in a game in which they went 1-0 and 2-1 up as well as 3-2 down. They have suffered just four defeats in 12 matches across all competitions since the arrival of Carlos Corberan.

Real Valladolid Preview: Struggles for Valladolid

The presidency of Ronaldo is being questioned at Real Valladolid with his reported desire to sell but failure to engage with any offers for the club. They sacked Paulo Pezzolano in December but his replacement, former Mexico boss Diego Cocca, hasn’t improved them.

After promotion to the La Liga last season, it was always expected to be a struggle but they now begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting eight points adrift of safety. They most recently managed to halt their losing streak with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at home to ten-man Las Palmas.

Valencia Team News: No Correia

Valencia have been able to get the best out of some key players such as Javi Guerra and Giorgi Mamardashvili since the arrival of Carlos Corberan. They will, though, be without French defender Thierry Correia, who remains sidelined due to a knee injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Foulquier, Carlos Tarrega, Cristhian Mosquera, Jose Luis Gaya; Javi Guerra, Barrenechea; Luis Rioja, Ivan Jaime, Diego Lopez; Sadiq

Unavailable: Correia (Injured)

Questionable:

Real Valladolid Team News: Mario Martin suspension

Winter transfer window signing Joseph Aidoo, who joined from Celta Vigo, is sidelined for Valladolid due to a hamstring injury, whilst Real Madrid loanee Mario Martin remains suspended for the visitors.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Hein; Candela, Cumart, Jorge Sanchez, Aznou; Grillitsch, Nikitscher; Anuar, Amallah, Raul Moro; Marcos Andre

Unavailable: Aidoo (Injured), Mario Martin (Suspended)

Valencia vs Real Valladolid Prediction

Valencia, as mentioned, have suffered four defeats in those 12 games but those four defeats have come against Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and twice against Barcelona with a loss in both the league and the cup. Despite their draw with Las Palmas last weekend stopping the rot, Valladolid are a very weak side and it can be expected they will be a second-tier club next season. On paper and looking at the table this should be a close contest but, frankly, Valencia are firm favourites for this one, especially at Mestalla.
