Valencia preview: Struggling Los Che
The pressure is growing on former West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan, with Valencia beginning this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places on goal difference.
Los Che have won just three games in 16 La Liga fixtures thus far, beaten 2-1 by Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano last week, but they did manage to comfortably defeat Sporting Gijon by two goals to nil in Asturias in the Copa del Rey in midweek.
Mallorca preview: Impressive win last week
Real Mallorca come into this one on the back of a frustrating 1-0 defeat to second-tier side Deportivo La Coruna in the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey the other day at the Riazor in Galicia.
However, the Balearic Islanders put in a very impressive performance last weekend as they defeated Elche by three goals to one in La Liga, courtesy of goals from Manu Morlanes, Omar Mascarell and Vedat Muriqi.
Valencia team news: A couple of doubts
Ahead of the visit of Mallorca to the Community of Valencia this week, the hosts have a couple of injury doubts, such as defender Mouctar Diakhaby and summer signing Luis Rioja.
Predicted XI (4-4-2): Julen Agirrezabala; Foulquier, Cumart, Copete, Jesus Vazquez; Correia, Pepelu, Ugrinic, Diego Lopez; Hugo Duro, Almeida
Unavailable:
Questionable: Diakhaby (Injured), Luis Rioja (Injured)
Mallorca team news: Manu Morlanes a doubt
The aforementioned Manu Morlanes sustained a slight thigh injury last weekend but was rested against Depor in midweek, with an expectation that the former Villarreal midfielder will be available for the short hop across to the eastern coast of the mainland.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Leo Roman; Pablo Maffeo, Valjent, Antonio Raillo, Johan Mojica; Omar Mascarell, Manu Morlanes; Mateo Joseph, Sergi Darder, Jan Virgili; Muriqi
Unavailable: Dani Rodriguez (Disciplinary)
Questionable: Manu Morlanes (Injured)
Valencia vs Mallorca prediction
Valencia have been in improved form in terms of their performance level of late, despite their defeat to Atletico Madrid last week. They will hope that their victory against Sporting in midweek has given them a boost of confidence to take into La Liga. Mallorca make their shortest away trip of the season knowing that they have perhaps already just put in their performance of the season and, with the expectation being that their form slightly dips, siding with the Valencians to get a much-needed win would appear a good value bet.
