In-form Union Berlin take on Freiburg, who currently sit one place and one point above the hosts in the Bundesliga table.

Kick-Off Date/Time: Friday November 8th 2024 – UK – 7:30pm / US ET – 2:30pm / US PT – 11:30am

How To Watch On TV: UK – Sky Sports / US – Some matches will be televised on ESPN channels so it is worth checking their schedules

Union Berlin Preview: Lack Of Goals Now Concerning

Although Union Berlin boast one of the best defences in the Bundesliga, conceding just eight goals in nine games, which is bettered only by the current top two, scoring goals at the other end has been very difficult. As it stands, the hosts are averaging just one goal per match, with only St. Pauli having scored less.

Despite this, they are currently seventh-place in the table and extremely well-placed moving forward. But to make that push into the European places, they’ll need to improve their offensive potency.

Freiburg Preview: One Point From Their Last Two

Freiburg are looking to get back to winning ways after having drawn one and lost one of their last two. A 3-1 defeat away to RB Leipzig was followed up by a disappointing 0-0 draw against Mainz, although sandwiched inbetween those two results was their 2-1 victory over Hamburg in the DFB-Pokal.

Prior to their loss in Leipzig, Freiburg had beaten both Heidenheim and Werder Bremen on the road so they do travel well. A point here wouldn’t be a bad result, but when taking into account their opponent’s attacking struggles, the visitors will be eying up all three.

Union Berlin Team News: Three Confirmed Out For Hosts

Union will be missing right-wing-back Josip Juranovic, goalkeeper Yannic Stein and midfielder Lucas Tousart for this game. Andras Schafer could play in central midfield alongside Khedira

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Ronnow; Doekhi, Vogt, Leite; Trimmel, Schafer, Khedira, Rothe; Jeong, Jordan, Vertessen

Unavailable: Juranovic (Injured), Stein (Injured), Tousart (Injured)

Questionable:

Freiburg Team News: Adamu Could Drop To Bench

It would be no surprise if the visitors opt for a change in attack with Austrian international Gregoritsch desperate for a starting spot. Gulde, Kyereh and Rohl are all out, whilst an abdominal injury renders Schmidt doubtful.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Atubolu; Kubler, Ginter, Lienhart, Gunter; Eggestein, Osterhage; Doan, Dinkci, Grifo; Gregoritsch

Unavailable: Gulde (Injured), Kyereh (Injured), Rohl (Injured)

Questionable: Schmidt (Injured)

Union Berlin Vs Freiburg Prediction

A close encounter is likely between two well-matched sides bunched close together in the table. It’s hard not to see a game with little in the way of big goalscoring opportunities and the hosts in particularly may struggle to break down Freiburg if Julian Schuster’s side sets up defensively. With that in mind, backing under 2.5 goals scored over the course of 90 minutes appears to be the sensible play.

Union Berlin Vs Freiburg Tip: Under 2.5 Goals
