Uganda have a chance of qualification and a victory would likely see them through in third anyway, as they take on a strong Nigeria side who have started well.

Uganda preview: Poor Uganda

Uganda come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Tanzania at the Al Medina Stadium in Rabat the other day in a game in which former Middlesbrough striker Uche Ikpeazu notched a late equaliser for the Ugandans.

Uganda have started with a point from their opening two matches. They have been a competitive team in recent years, even finishing second in their recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, but still lack quality in general.

Nigeria preview: Strong Nigeria

After a very poor couple of years, which has included failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite a star studded squad, Nigeria have begun this CAF Africa Cup of Nations campaign with back-to-back victories.

Under the management of Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles started with a hard-fought 2-1 defeat of Tanzania before entertainingly defeating Tunisia by three goals to two, courtesy of strikes from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman.

Uganda team news: Fatigued Ugandans

Uganda, like most teams after two games into a tournament, appear to be a bit fatigued but have no confirmed injury issues and so could name an unchanged eleven.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Onyango; Semakula, Sibbick, Obita, Kayondo; Byaruhanga, Mutyaba, Alhassan; Okello, Ssemugabi, Mato

Ademola Lookman was substituted late on, with Chiedozie Awaziem replacing the former Atalanta winger, but that was more a tactical thing rather than any fitness issues.

Predicted XI (4-1-2-1-2): Nwabali; Osayi-Samuel, Ajayi, Bassey, Onyemaechi; Ndidi; Onyeka, Iwobi; Lookman; Osimhen, Adams

Uganda vs Nigeria prediction

Uganda have low-scoring tendencies, despite Uche Ikpeazu recently becoming a focal point in the final third. The Ugandans take on a Nigeria side that have a lot of depth, and especially a lot of quality in attack. Uganda, with Jordan Obita and Toby Sibbick, have a bit of defensive pedigree and experience. Nigeria will be expected to come out on top, albeit another low-scoring clash is to be expected.

Uganda vs Nigeria tip: Nigeria to win & under 3.5 goals
