Tuco Tokkos: Can Tokkos earn his second consecutive win?

Fresh off a submission victory over Junior Tafa, Tukko Tokkos (11-5) looks to push his UFC record to 2-2 after beginning life in the promotion with back-to-back defeats. An adopted Brit with Brazilian and Cypriot heritage, Tokkos fought in Bellator and Road to UFC prior to making the jump to the big leagues, even fighting current ranked light heavyweight, Zhang Mingyang, during the early stages of his career. The 35 year Kill Cliff representative was submitted in his debut by Oumar Sy and dropped a decision to Navajo Stirling in his sophomore appearance, before eventually rebounding with an arm triangle victory over the aforementioned Tafa last time out.

Ivan Erslan: Does the Croatian have what it takes to avoid his walking papers?

Joining the UFC after a largely successful run in KSW, it’s been a rough start to life in the promotion for Ivan Erslan (14-6, 1 NC). The Croatian is 0-3 since arriving in the UFC, dropping decisions to Ion Cutelaba and Navajo Stirling before getting tapped out with one of the nastiest submissions of the year by Jimmy Crute in his most recent appearance. A powerful striker with ten wins by KO, Erslan is undoubtedly dangerous when he’s on his game, but his aggressive approach has seen him go out on his shield on more than one occasion; a status quo that applied prior to making the jump to the UFC.

Tuco Tokkos vs Ivan Erslan prediction

Call me crazy, but why is Tokkos the underdog here? Erslan is on the wrong end of the numbers when it comes to height and reach, has a less well-rounded skillset, and has yet to secure a single UFC victory in three attempts.

With that being said, Tokkos is far from a safe pick in this one. He’s been finished on multiple occasions on the regional circuit prior to joining the UFC and was submitted by Oumar Sy in his first fight with the promotion; a result that continues to age more poorly by the day. Sy was just finished with ease by Ion Cutelaba, who Erslan took to a split decision in his own debut.

Do NOT bet on this one, but I think that if Tokkos can survive on the feet against Junior Tafa, he’s capable of doing the same against Erslan here. There’s a very real chance that Erslan discovers his KSW form to nuke the Kill Cliff representative out cold in the early goings, but if Tokkos can escape the opening minutes, I like him to secure the victory as an underdog here. The adopted Brit weathers an early storm to find a finish over the flagging Erslan.

Prediction: Tuco Tokkos to win by finish
