Choi Doo-ho: Can Hall of Fame inductee continue his late-career resurgence?
Doo Ho Choi (16-4-1) returns to the octagon for the first time since his three-fight unbeaten run paused in late 2024. The 35-year-old Korean is forever etched into the UFC Hall of Fame Fight Wing for his iconic war with Cub Swanson at UFC 206, and although that loss appeared to start a chin-eroding skid with knockout losses to Jeremy Stephens and Charles Jourdain, “The Korean Superboy” has looked rebuilt since returning to the promotion from a long layoff in 2023. Choi is a fundamentally sound technical striker, possesses a tight guard, beautiful uppercuts, and nice judo work in the clinch.
Daniel Santos: Pressure fighter looks to dispatch his third straight Korean opponent
Daniel Santos (13-2) heads into this weekend on a four-fight win streak, most recently scoring a second-round TKO over the previously unbeaten Joo Sang Yoo at UFC 320. Before that Santos outpointed Jeong Yeong Lee at UFC 315 in a closely contested decision. The Chute Boxe product is a well-rounded fighter with clean boxing combinations, a varied kicking arsenal, and sharp level changes to time takedowns mid-exchange. His control on the ground isn’t elite, but his ability to read range and time entries is what makes him so dangerous on the feet.
Choi Doo-ho vs Daniel Santos prediction
Santos has built a reputation as a huntsman against Korean featherweights, having beaten both Lee and Yoo in his last two outings. Choi represents another level though, finishing UFC level opposition before Santos had even debuted in the UFC.
Technically, Choi is the cleaner striker, with sharper boxing and better fundamentals. His uppercuts against Santos coming in heavy with combinations could be the difference, especially when Santos looks to finish exchanges to look good for the judges. Choi’s judo throws in the clinch could also offer another route, as he has shown better top control in his previous outings.
The question is whether Choi can handle the pressure that Santos brings, the Brazilian won’t give much space to breathe. We saw what a high-pace fight against Cub Swanson did to Choi’s chin years ago, making this a serious test of Choi’s resurgence.
This has all the makings of an absolute war, but expect Choi to come into this fight strong as the underdog and put on a performance for his fellow countrymen that Santos has dispatched.
