Austin Bashi: Under pressure after two defeats in three

Austin Bashi (14-2) has found life tough since arriving in the UFC, losing two of his three bouts in the Octagon.

After graduating through Dana White’s Contender Series, Bashi has seen two unanimous decisions go against him, either side of his sole UFC victory, which came when he submitted John Yannis in August 2025.

It will be interesting to see how he handles the change in opponent, but he needs to focus on his own game.

Carlos Calderon: Short-notice debutant riding a three-fight win streak

Carlos Calderon (11-4, 1 NC) gets his shot in the UFC on just four days’ notice, replacing the injured Lucas Brennan, who was forced to withdraw after tearing his ACL.

Calderon has most recently competed in Fury FC, where he has won his last three fights, and the Colorado native will be desperate to make his mark on his Octagon debut.

He fought just five weeks ago, picking up a unanimous decision win over Lorram Esteves over five rounds, so he will be coming into this in good shape, having fought six times in the last 18 months.

Austin Bashi vs Carlos Calderon prediction

Bashi has a good set of submission skills along with a degree of knockout power, but he comes up against an opponent in Calderon who has a very solid chin and a good engine.

Bashi is somehow going to have to try to control this fight, but that may be easier said than done against a hugely motivated Calderon.

This is one of those fights where Bashi will be favoured by the bookmakers, but Calderon has nothing to lose, which makes him a really dangerous opponent, especially against somebody who may be lacking in confidence after two recent defeats.

We have a marginal preference for Bashi, but we can see this one going the distance, and that is where our pick lies.

Prediction: Fight to go the distance
