Alden Coria: Can Joshua Van's team mate score another impressive victory?

A teammate of current flyweight king, Joshua Van, Alden Coria (11-3, 1NC) made quite the impression in his UFC debut, dispatching Alessandro Costa with a vicious third round knockout as a heavy underdog in September. A slick boxer with a solid clinch game, the LFA and Fury FC alum has finished nine of his eleven wins inside the distance and has never been stopped in his professional career. This is all the more impressive given the manner in which he’s typically willing to wade into the fire in his fights, relying on an iron chin to take a shot in order to dish out several of his own.

Luis Gurule: "Grim" looks to save his job and prove that he belongs in the UFC

Graduating to the UFC via the Contender Series back in 2024, things haven’t gone quite accordingly to plan for Luis Gurule (10-2) since joining the promotion. “Grim” coughed up his undefeated record in emphatic fashion in his debut, a loss that saw him brutally knocked out by flyweight mainstay Ode’ Osbourne. While his sophomore bow was undoubtedly an improvement on his disastrous debut, Gurule still found himself on the wrong end of a unanimous decision defeat to Jesus Aguilar last September. Arguably undersized even for flyweight at 5’5, Gurule could well be receiving his walking papers should he suffer a third successive loss on Saturday night.

Alden Coria vs Luis Gurule prediction

Leveraging an iron chin and a polished boxing game, Coria looks to have legitimate potential to break into the rankings at flyweight. Alessandro Costa may not be the most elite fighter at 125 pounds, but he's still given the likes of ranked contenders Amir Albazi and Steve Erceg cause for concern. As such, "Cobra's" third round KO over the Brazilian stands as an extremely impressive result, particularly given that it came in his UFC debut.

By contrast, his opponent does not look like he has what it takes to compete at this level. Despite beginning his career with a 100% finish rate across his first five fights, Gurule hasn't scored a stoppage outside of an arm triangle victory over the 11-10 Jacob Silva since 2023. More pressingly, he's looked out of his depth in his only two fights with the promotion to date. "Grim" is also no spring chicken for the division at 32, and enters this matchup on the wrong end of a significant discrepancy in height and reach.

In short, this looks to be the UFC attempting to advance the current champion's teammate at the expense of a fighter who is seemingly on his way out. Coria is a prolific finisher with serious power for the division; if Ode' Osbourne was able to flatline Gurule, there's a strong chance that "Cobra" will follow suit.

Prediction: Alden Coria to win by TKO
