Anthony Wint: Does "Bow Down" produce another ferocious finish as a huge favorite?

Poised to make his third appearance since August, Anthony Wint (8-0) followed up his Contender Series beatdown with another demolition job over Terrance Chatman in his debut just eleven days later. The former NFL linebacker is undefeated across eight fights with seven finishes, leaning on his power and athleticism to blow his opponents out of the water before they have chance to realize what’s hit them. He’s decidedly not the most technical operator, disclosing that he had no idea what a kimura was in the aftermath of his victory over Chatman, but he’s such a powerhouse that nobody has been able to stop him to date.

Lucas Armand: "Do or Die" looks to prove his nickname correct as a massive underdog

Lucas Armand (6-0) arrives in the UFC with an undefeated record, various regional championships, and five finishes in six pro fights. He’s got solid finishing power and stands all of 6’4” tall, with his most notable victory coming over former UFC heavyweight, Braxton Smith. However, like many regional heavyweight prospects, “Do or Die” doesn’t have a particularly impressive resume; Armand has wins over the likes of the 9-18 Marcus Maulding and the 9-23 Cameron Graham. He was scheduled to face former UFC alum, Rashad Coulter, but finds himself in the biggest spot of his career instead on short notice.

Who do you think will win at UFC 332?

Anthony Wint vs Lucas Armand prediction

What are we actually doing here?

Even if Wint wins, this fight proves absolutely nothing. "Bow Down" is fresh off a dominant win against an overmatched heavyweight from the regional circuit; what is the point of repeating the exact same formula in his next matchup? He’s probably going to score another brutal finish but it doesn’t do anything to advance his profile or establish his ceiling as a legitimate heavyweight contender.

Armand is 4” taller than Wint’s last opponent, but outside of that, doesn’t look to present much more of a challenge than Terrance Chatman. Yes, he’s undefeated, but he’s been fighting straight cans on the regional circuit; only 50% of his wins have come over opponents with winning records and he’s fresh off going to a fourth round with a fighter who was 9-23 at the time of their fight.

Sean Sharaf just proved that hyped, athletic heavyweights aren’t surefire locks against Gable Steveson in emphatic fashion, but I don’t see anything in Armand’s game that makes me think he’s about to score another monumental upset. Sharaf had UFC experience and solid striking to exploit Steveson’s suspect defence. Armand is debuting and is a striker first and foremost; Wint’s biggest shortcomings look to be his technique on the ground.

In short, I think that “Bow Down” finishes this brutally and decisively in the early goings.

Prediction: Anthony Wint to win by stoppage
