Toulouse preview: Toulouse got a win

Under the management of Carlos Martinez Novell, Toulouse have stagnated since their promotion to the top-flight of French football a few years ago but, after a quiet summer transfer window, they have got themselves off to a winning start this season.

On the opening day, Toulouse went away to UEFA Champions League qualifiers Nice and they won by a goal to nil at the Allianz Riviera down on the south coast, courtesy of a dramatic 89th minute winner scored by former Everton right-back Djibril Sidibe.

Brest preview: Entertaining overachievers

Former Sunderland player Eric Roy led the lowest budget in French top-flight football, Stade Brest, to the UEFA Champions League in 2024, and then managed to steady themselves against a natural regression last season with a firmly mid-table finish.

Now they return looking to overachieve again this season, and they were brilliant to watch on the opening day of the campaign at home to Lille, as they shared a 3-3 draw at Stade Francis-Le Ble in that game, coming from behind on three separate occasions.

Toulouse team news: Nothing fresh

Much like their opposition, Toulouse have no fresh issues so can name an unchanged eleven, albeit the likes of Abu Francis and Niklas Schmidt are sidelined for the hosts.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Restes; Sidibe, Cresswell, McKenzie; Donnum, Sauer, Canvot, Methalie; Edjouma, Magri, Gboho

Unavailable: Francis (Injured), Mezzali (Injured), Schmidt (Injured), Azizi (Injured)

Questionable:

Brest team news: Fully fit

As Brest head to the city of Toulouse this weekend, Eric Roy will be able name an unchanged eleven as the visitors have no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Majecki; Lala, Chardonnet, Le Cardinal, Locko; Lees-Melou, Magnetti; Del Castillo, Doumbia, Balde; Ajorque

Unavailable:

Questionable:

Toulouse vs Brest prediction

Carlos Martinez Novell is known for wanting to play a progressive and passing style of football, but with the back three shape that he prefers, it can often be quite dull with too much emphasis on control. That is in contrast to a Brest side that appear to thrive in chaos and they try to create it at all times. Whilst Toulouse may not be the easiest team to draw into it, they still do have to take more initiative at home, so it could be quite a fun watch for the neutral.
